Claire A. Foos

Cutchogue resident Claire A. Foos died May 23 at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Montrose, N.Y. She was 88 years old.

She was born Jan. 3, 1925, in Brooklyn to Paul and Katherine Hearting. Ms. Foos served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946 and then was a homemaker. She was involved in many local organizations, including Friends of Cutchogue Library, Southold American Legion, Marian Council Columbiettes and the Cutchogue Homemakers.

According to family members, she was a “people person” who enjoyed reading, visiting museums and national parks and swimming. She also loved writing, and frequently wrote a column that appeared in the Suffolk Times.

Ms. Foos was predeceased by her husband, Robert Foos, in April 2012. She is survived by her daughter, Jane (George) Biskup of Highland Falls, N.Y.; her son, Stephen (Jenny), of Florida.; a sister, Doris Kircher of Port Jefferson; and four grandchildren, Christine, Jill, Kevin and Keith.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, May 30, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, May 31, at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue. Interment with military honors will be at Calverton National Cemetery.
