Bertha Rutkoski Bokina

Former longtime Riverhead resident Bertha Rutkoski Bokina died April 30. She was 92 years old.

She was born July 21, 1920, to John and Laura (Wagner) Rutkoski and attended the Mattituck School House. She married Stanley Bokina at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue on Nov. 22, 1942, and together they made their home in Riverhead and Hudson, Fla.

Bertha had been an assembly technician at Hazeltine for 25 years and was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead and a member of the Riverhead Polish Hall Ladies Auxiliary.

Predeceased by her husband Stanley in 1994, she leaves her daughter, Beverly McCaffery; two grandsons, Robert (MaryAnne) McCaffery and Thomas (Cindy) McCaffery; great-grandchildren Ryan, Mallorey, Evan and Brett McCaffery; and a brother, Henry Rutkoski. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Bruce McCaffery, in 1985, and eight siblings, John and Edward Rutkoski, Stanley Rutkowski, Helen Simchick, Josephine Gevinski, Ann Dixon, Jean Hauck and Mary Kalder.

The family received friends Friday, May 3, at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, May 4, at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Father Larry Duncklee officiating. Interment followed at St. John’s R.C. Cemetery.
