Cops: Drug bust is fourth arrest of year for Greenport man

A Greenport man was arrested for the fourth time in the past year when Southold Town police busted him with cocaine and marijuana early Sunday morning, police said.

Ralph Mims III, 35,  was busted after a patrolman smelled marijuana coming from his car in the Adams Street Parking Lot shortly after 2 a.m.

After police questioned him, Mr. Mims attempted to flee the scene on foot. While running, he was observed tossing an item from his pocket, police said.

After they apprehended him, police found a sock containing a plastic bag filled with marijuana, and three foil packets of cocaine, they said.

Mr. Mims was held overnight at police headquarters for a Sunday morning arraignment.

Last July, Mr. Mims was found driving with a suspended license and in early August he attempted to evade police after officers noticed his vehicle’s plates did not match the registration, records show.

He was most recently arrested on a marijuana possession charge in March, police said at the time.
