Denis B. O’Donnell

Denis B. O’Donnell, a resident of Peconic Landing in Greenport, died May 22, 2013. He was 88 years old.

Born June 25, 1924, in Staten Island to Dennis and Mary Ellen (Shevlin) O’Donnell, he was a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point.

On July 29, 1950, he married Mary Elizabeth Monahan at St. Aloysius R.C. Church in Great Neck and together they made their home in Southold before moving to the Peconic Landing community.

Denis was a retired marine engineer with Mariner’s in Edgewater, N.J., and was an active alumnus of the Merchant Marine Academy.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Elizabeth; a daughter, Moira J. Caine of Southold; three half-sisters, Mary Clare, Agnes and Denise; two grandchildren, Denis Robert Caine and Michael Joseph Caine; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Peter Garry Wednesday, May 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold. Interment will follow at the church cemetery in Southold.
