Philomena Soto

Longtime Greenport resident Philomena “Mina” Soto died at her home May 16, 2013. She was 85.

She was born Aug. 12, 1927, in Brooklyn to Anthony and Josephine (Cecora) Esposito. She married Angel Soto Jr. on March 31, 1951, in Brooklyn.

She had been a histology technician at Eastern Long Island Hospital for 24 years. Family members said she loved reading, traveling, casinos and spending time with family and friends.

Ms. Soto is survived by her husband, Angel Jr., of Greenport; her sons, Angel III, of Tucson, Ariz., Anthony, of Greenport, and Ralph (Mary Anne), of Southold; her daughters, Julia (Wayde) Manwaring of Greenport and Diana (Charles) Cook of Mooresville, N.C.; her grandson, Wayde (Brie) Manwaring of Greenport; her grandaughters, Jessica (Jason) Ladelfa of Rochester, N.Y., Jenna (James) Kelly of Manchester, N.H., Felicia, of Greenport, Brittany, of Southbridge, Mass., and Amanda Cook of Mooresville, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Shane Manwaring of Greenport; four brothers, Anthony Esposito of Valley Stream, Louis Esposito of Patchogue, Ralph Esposito of Plainview and Joseph Esposito of Poconos, Pa; three sisters, Theresa Palumbo of Glen Head, N.Y., Roseanne Teegardner of Glen Cove, N.Y., and Anna Capasso of Poconos, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Princess Magee and Rachel Petito, and a brother, James Esposito.

The family received visitors May 19 at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A service took place May 20 at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport, Father Tom Murray officiating. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
