Two charged with drunk driving in Southold early Friday

Southold Police made two driving while intoxicated arrests, one in Greenport and the other in Mattituck, only minutes apart early Friday morning, according to reports.

At 3:24 a.m. police stopped Angel Gonzalez Jr..27, of Mattituck, who was behind the wheel of a 2005 GMC Denali, near the intersection of Route 25 and Factory Avenue in Mattituck for failing to keep within the lane of travel. After failing a roadside sobriety test, Mr. Gonzalez was arrested on a misdemeanor DWI charge and held pending arraignment in Southold Justice Court, police said.

Less than half an hour later, at 3:51 a.m., police stopped Brian Nelson, 61, of Shelter Island, for driving erratically on Third Street in Greenport in a 1997 Honda, according to a report. Police said Mr. Nelson also failed roadside sobriety tests. He also was charged with a misdemeanor DWI and held pending arraignment.
