Michael Craig Brophy

Michael Craig Brophy of Northport died June 2 at the age of 64.

He was born Jan. 17, 1949, in Roslyn to Frank and Mary Leah (Sohner) Brophy. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Stony Brook University and later served for two years as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps.

Most recently, he was a salesman with Hudson Awnings in Bayonne, N.J.

He was formerly general manager of the Helena (Mont.) Phillies, the Pioneer League baseball affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. Family members said he was a history buff who loved reading and kept a bust of Civil War Gen. Ulysses S. Grant on his mantel. He collected antiques and old cars, they said, and enjoyed watching classic movies, especially on the Turner Classic Movie channel.

Mr. Brophy is survived by his mother, of New Suffolk; a sister, Kristen Grathwohl of Greenport; and two brothers, Peter, of Beaverton, Ore., and John, of New Suffolk. He was predeceased by his father, Frank, on Feb. 24, 2009.

A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 6, at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport.
