Harriet Hull Aherne

Harriet Hull Aherne of Peconic Landing in Greenport died June 12 at the age of 96.

She was born Jan. 4, 1917, to Allen and Marie (Bowen) Hull and spent many years living and working in Brooklyn. For 10 years, she was a teacher’s assistant in New York City public schools. She married Robert Aherne on Dec. 30, 1936.

Family members said she enjoyed gardening and playing bridge.

Predeceased by her husband in 1979, Ms. Aherne is survived by her sons, Bob, of Ridgewood, N.J., and Allen, of Sea Cliff, N.Y.; her daughters, Corinne White of Arlington, Va., Merry Wetherall of Islip and Marie Taylor of Sudbury, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Her siblings Oliver and Allen Hull also predeceased her.

A service will take place Monday, June 24, at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport. Arrangements are being handled by Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport.
