Ollie James Booker Jr.

Former Mattituck resident Ollie James Booker Jr. of Riverhead  died June 2. He was 81 years old.

He was born Aug. 23, 1931, in Mattituck to Ollie Sr. and Geneva (Givens) Booker. He grew up in Mattituck, and after graduating from high school there he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After serving for two years he met and married Jeanette Proctor and relocated to Riverhead, where he lived for 53 years.

Family members described Mr. Booker as a hard-working man of great integrity. He retired from Brookhaven National Laboratory after 28 years of service and was very active in his community and church for many years. He loved spending time with his family and shared the importance of family values and love with his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Booker is survived by his wife; his daughters, Priscilla Woodson of Clinton, Md., Deborah Mayo of Waldorf, Md., Tammy Wallace of Augusta, Ga., and Angela Booker of Mastic Beach; his son, Ollie Booker III, of Riverhead; his sisters, Geneva McDaniel of Oakland, Calif., Mary Booker of Brooklyn and Patricia Iverson of Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren whom he raised, Monique Miles, Melanie Parrish, Domonique Spellman and Michael Dennis; 15 other grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held June 7 at First Baptist Church of Cutchogue, officiated by the Rev. Cornelius Fulford. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Seay Memorial Chapel.
