A new shop in downtown Riverhead is about to get its game on.

TheWarStore.com, a retail games website run by Southold resident Neil Catapano, will open a brick-and-mortar shop on East Main Street Saturday, store manager Steve Megas confirmed Wednesday.

A grand opening for the store is slated for July 13.

The store will sell European-style board games like Settlers of Catan as well as table-top games like Warmachine, where players use miniature models to battle each other.

“We’re based in Southold, so geographically Riverhead was a good spot for us,” Mr. Megas said. “This area has been coming along. The theater was redone and a lot of businesses are filling [up downtown]. It seemed like a great opportunity.”

In addition to purchasing games, customers can also bring their favorite board games to the shop and play with friends at tables situated in a large area toward the back of the store.

“We plan to have the space ready [by July 13] for people to be able to play all the games we support,” Mr. Megas said. “We’re an established e-commerce business so a lot of our customers from the area have been interested.”
