A 79-year-old man who was seriously injured after he was struck by a pickup truck on Main Road in Cutchogue Tuesday evening died of his injuries early Wednesday, Southold Town police said.

As is the case with all fatal accidents, the incident will be reviewed by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office, said Southold Police Chief Martin Flatley.

Domenick Manzolillo was walking in the crosswalk outside Our Lady of Mercy school from the south side of Main Road to the north shortly after 5 p.m., Chief Flatley said.

Two cars were stopped in the westbound lane of the road to let Mr. Manzolillo pass, but a silver Subaru Baja driven by Mimi M. Christy, 48, of Westhampton Beach, cut around the two stopped cars and passed them on the shoulder and struck Mr. Manzolillo, police said.

A police helicopter was initially called to the scene to airlift Mr. Manzolillo to the hospital, but was sent back due to concerns over the rain. Instead he was rushed to Peconic Bay Medical Center via ambulance, fire officials said.

Mr. Manzolillo is a resident of St. Augustine, Fla., according to police, though records show he has also lived in Cutchogue. No charges have been filed against Ms. Christy.
