Police: Woman sexually assaulted on streets of Greenport

A 48-year-old woman was forced from a Greenport parking lot by an unknown man and then sexually assaulted near a residential waterfront area Wednesday night, Southold police said.

The victim reported that a man, described as white, between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-8, and about 140 pounds, approached her in the Adams Street lot behind Main Street about 10:45 p.m. and forced her to an area at the end of Bay Avenue, where he assaulted her before fleeing.

No arrests were reported by police.

The suspect appeared to be in his 20s, was unshaven and had a cigarette tucked behind his right ear, police said.

Neighbors near the scene of the alleged attack said they didn’t hear or see anything Wednesday night.
