Born March 24, 1920, in Baltimore, Md., to Margaret and Paulding Stoutenburgh, Margaret spent her elementary school years on Fleet’s Neck in Cutchogue. She graduated from Cutchogue Grammar School in 1933 with 12 other classmates and, in 1937, from Lynbrook High School.

Margaret Vanderbeck

In 1943, Margaret married James Tagg, and they resided in Merrick. While there, she worked for the Merrick School District, Doubleday Publishing Company and the N.Y. Telephone Company. In 1971, she married Robert Vanderbeck, and they resided in Cutchogue until his death in 2003. Margaret then moved to the West Coast to be near her daughter. She lived in Snohomish, Wash., for the last eight years but always thought of Cutchogue as her home.

Margaret is survived by her brother, Paul (Barbara) Stoutenburgh of Cutchogue, and three children from her first marriage, Judy (William) Christopher, Joan (Joseph) Randell and David Tagg. In addition, she leaves behind two stepchildren, Robert (Janet) Vanderbeck of Ithaca and Betty Jean (Edward) Hassildine of Cutchogue; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

A woman with a positive outlook, Margaret loved the beach, the natural environment and spending time with family and friends. She will be missed by her family, friends and caregivers.
