Flash flood warning issued for Suffolk County today

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for all of Suffolk County today.

The warning is in effect until 6 p.m. tonight as “low pressure moving northeast from the Mid Atlantic region and its associated warm front will act on an increasingly moist and unstable air mass to produce showers and thunderstorms today,” according to the advisory.

Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are likely, with localized amounts of more than 3 inches possible in some areas.

“This rainfall could occur over a short period of time, with rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, and cause flash flooding of small streams and urban, low lying and poor drainage areas,” the advisory reads.
