Lifelong Greenport resident Lawrence “Larry” Francis Damiani died Aug. 24. He was 84 years old.He was born Aug. 21, 1929, in Greenport to Peter and Rose Elvira (Dellanave) Damiani. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years as a submarine fireman and later worked for 36 years as a production manager for Grumman Aerospace in Calverton. He also served in the Greenport Fire Department’s Relief Hose company.
Mr. Damiani married Janice Klipp Oct. 21, 1951, in Greenport. Family members said he liked “tinkering mechanically,” gardening and entertaining on the patio.
Mr. Damiani is survived by his wife; his sons, Brad, of Westford, N.Y., Steven, of Bethpage, and Laine, of Clovis, Calif.; his daughter, Shari, of Hampstead, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Charles and Joseph.
The family will receive visitors Friday, Aug. 30, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport, where a funeral service will take place Saturday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m., Father Tom Murray officiating. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, also in Greenport.
