Thomas J. Monahan


Thomas J. Monahan of Ridge died Aug. 22, 2013, at the age of 83. Formerly of Cutchogue, he had been proprietor of Top O’ The Mornin’ bed and breakfast there.

He was born in Mineola March 12, 1930, to Robert J. and Bridget (McCormack) Monahan. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and went on to a career in law enforcement.

Also formerly of Glen Cove, Tom served for 33 years with the Great Neck Estates Police Department, retiring as chief of the department.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 803 in Southold and Island’s End Golf and Country Club in Greenport.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (née McCabe), and his loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Betty O’Donnell.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold. Interment with U.S. Army honors will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
