Alice Cornell Hess

Former Southold resident Alice Pauline Kramer Cornell Hess died Sept. 21, 2012, at E.T. York Hospice in Gainesville, Fla. She was 94.

She was born in Brooklyn Feb. 14, 1918, to Theodore and Mary (Spirko) Kramer. Alice married Joseph Clifford Cornell on Dec. 2, 1939, and resided in Southold until 1990, when they moved to Florida. Joseph (Cliff) passed away Nov. 11, 1994. She married Olin Leroy Hess on Oct. 12, 1996, and they resided in New Port Richey and Gainesville, Fla.

Alice is survived by her husband, Olin. She was a devoted mother to Clifford Charles (Ruth) Cornell Sr. of Southold, Thomas Gregory (Nancy) and John Theodore (Denise) Cornell of Stony Brook and George Michael (Mary) Cornell of Mahopac; and the beloved grandmother of 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Alice spent her life as a homemaker and was a charter member and president of Massapequa Does, B.P.O. Elks Lodge 2162, a member of Southold Senior Citizens and a member of the choir at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greenport.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greenport.
