Featured Letter: Greenport, Southold should share superintendent

To the editor:

It was nice to read in the Aug. 29 Suffolk Times that Greenport and Southold school districts are expanding “shared services” to give our students greater choices to enhance their education.

Now that Greenport Superintendent Michael Comanda is planning to retire, let’s help the taxpayers by sharing the superintendent job for Greenport and Southold. Each school building would still have its principal, as they have today.

The projected student enrollment for Greenport is 625 and Southold is 860. There are three school buildings in the Greenport-Southold area. Surely one superintendent can handle this job. The 2014-15 budget can be reduced to save taxpayers money.
