Mark Nicholas Nelson

Mark Nicholas Nelson of Greenport died Aug. 26 at Eastern Long Island Hospital. He was 64 years old.

He was born Dec. 31, 1948, in Glen Cove to Ann Marie (Aretz) and Robert Charles Nelson Jr. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Manhasset in 1967 and received his Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Hartford. He worked for R.C. Nelson and Sons in New York City for 30 years and later for Preston’s in Greenport for 15 years.

Mr. Nelson loved absorbing history books and New York Times crossword puzzles, according to his family, and was also an avid New York Knicks fan.

He is survived by his significant other, Christine O’Shea; his son, Jason, of Saugerties, N.Y.; his daughter, Rachel Mysilborksi of East Marion; his brother Christopher; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father in 1985, his mother in 2008 and his brother Robert in 1997.

Arrangements were handled by Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. Cremation was private.
