Muriel Kunz Schwindt

Muriel Kunz Schwindt of Southold died Aug. 28, 2013, at her home. She was 89 years old.

She was born Feb. 5, 1924, at home in Brooklyn to George and Maria (Kolb) Kunz and graduated from Jamaica High School.

On April 8, 1945, she married Edward Schwindt Jr. and moved to Seattle. They eventually moved back to Queens Village and later decided to move to the country, buying property in Albertson and having a house built. Muriel worked as a secretary to the Herricks School District superintendent.

The Schwindts would spend weekends with their friends in Southold for many years. They eventually purchased their own bungalow in Peconic and spent many summers on Long Island Sound. For the past 17 years, Muriel has lived in the Bayview section of Southold.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greenport and the Isle-Enders.

Predeceased by her husband, Edward Schwindt Jr., in 2006, she leaves her daughters, Pamela Haldas (Robert) of Southold and Donna Roche (Thomas) of South Huntington; four grandchildren, Dr. Jason Haldas, Dawn Rohrs, Matthew Roche and Courtney Roche; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family received friends Aug. 30 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 31 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Greenport, by the Rev. Garret M. Johnson. Interment took place at Cutchogue Cemetery.
