Fred E. Hulse Jr.

Longtime Greenport resident Fred E. Hulse Jr. died Sept. 18 in Sun City Center, Fla., after a brief illness. He was 80 years old.

Mr. Hulse had owned and operated Hulse’s Service Station in Greenport. He was active in the Southold Town Republican Party, serving as town leader, and also in the Greenport Fire Department and the Masons. He loved to play golf and spent many hours on the course, according to family members. After retiring, Mr. Hulse wintered in Florida.

Predeceased by his wife, Joyce, he is survived by his daughter, Peggy Grumm of State College, Pa.; his son, Fred III, of Greenport; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.
