Four meets, three wins for Mattituck runners
Mattituck freshman Melanie Pfennig ran a personal best time of 19 minutes, 59 seconds Tuesday on the 5-kilometer course at Indian Island.
In a tri-meet against Center Moriches and Hampton Bays, the Tuckers emerged 1-1, narrowly losing to Center Moriches on a tiebreaker.
The Mattituck boys faced the same teams and won both, defeating Hampton Bays 25-36 and Center Moriches 20-43.
Sophomore Jack Dufton ran the top time for Mattituck in 18:26.
Matt Heffernan (18:42), Dan Harkin (18:54) and Bobby Becker (18:55) were next for Mattituck.
For the girls, Kaylee Bergen was second to cross the finish line for Mattituck in 21:39, followed immediately by Mia Vasile-Cozzo (21:41) and Audrey Hoeg (21:42). Sascha Rosin rounded out the scoring in 24:24.
The Tuckers tied Center Moriches at 28-28, but lost on the tiebreaker, which is determined by the sixth-place finisher. Mattituck won against Hampton Bays, 16-39.
