Weigh in on Southold Town’s 2014 preliminary budget tonight

CYNDI MURRAY FILE PHOTO | The public will be able to ask questions about Supervisor Scott Russell proposed 2014 during a public hearing tonight.

Southolders will have a chance to give their two cents on Town Supervisor Scott Russell’s proposed $41.6 million 2014 budget during a public meeting Monday night.

The spending plan includes a 1 percent spending increase over the current year and would result in a 1.17 percent tax hike, the supervisor said.

The budget calls for $23 million to be raised through taxes, according to Mr. Russell’s budget statement. The supervisor proposes using $2.4 million in reserves – down from last year’s $2.7 million.

Mr. Russell and Town Comptroller John Cushman will discuss the proposed spending plan as well as the budgeting process.

A public hearing on the budget will be held on November 6 p.m. in the Town Hall meeting room.

The public will be able to ask questions and make comments during Monday night’s meeting at the Peconic Lane Community Center.
