Ruth Anita Fries

Ruth Anita Fries, formerly of Greenport, passed away peacefully Oct. 13, 2013, at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital in Santa Rosa, Calif., at the age of 90, due to complications from an infection.

Ruth Anita Fries

Ruth was born May 23, 1923, in Queens, one of three children. She met the love of her life, George Fries, and they married Aug. 18, 1945. They raised three children in the town of North Merrick and later retired to the North Fork of Long Island in the village of Greenport. There they enjoyed spending as much time as possible on the water, boating, fishing and cruising Long Island Sound.

Ruth lived a fulfilling life, traveling with her family, entertaining at home, attending concerts, playing Scrabble, quilting and knitting for those in need and, most important, professing her devotion to God and her church. Her positive attitude, her ability to always have a kind word for everyone and her handmade Christmas cards will not be forgotten. She (along with her delicious pot roast!) will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and she will be remembered for her legacy of teaching her family to “Love one another.”

Ruth is survived by her three children, Steven, Marilyn and Donna; and seven grandchildren, David, Alex, Joe, Jake, Christine, Sarah and Shana, all of whom she loved dearly.

A memorial service is planned for the near future on Long Island, as well as a private family service in California. If desired, memorial donations may be made in her memory to Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 242, Greenport, NY 11944.

This is a paid notice.
