Underage alcohol sting in Greenport yields three arrests
Three store clerks in Greenport Village were arrested in a state police underage alcohol sting Tuesday after they allegedly sold beer to an undercover agent.
According to the police statement, Mr. Roberts convenience store clerk Thomas Martoscia, 24, of Hampton Bays, sold a 12-pack of Bud Light to the underage state police agent.
Aida Diaz-Villatoro, 27, of Greenport, at Layyah Market on Front Street sold a 12-pack of Coors Light to the agent during the same sting, police said.
Marina Castillo, 28, of Greenport, at TSM Grocery also allegedly sold a 6-pack of Bud Light, according to the statement.
Seven other Greenport businesses were targeted in the sting, but didn’t sell alcohol to minors: Patriot Gas, 7-Eleven, Claudios Wines & Liquors, Greenport Wines & Spirits, Zeynaz Village Grocer, Chasmur Supermarkets, and JB Liquor Store.
The arrested employees — none of whom had been arrested before for selling alcohol to minors — were charged with unlawfully dealing with a child and prohibited sale of alcohol, police said. They were given tickets with a future date in Southold Town court, police said.
