It’s been nine days since the last time the Southold/Greenport girls soccer team took the field for a match. And when the Clippers line up against The Stony Brook School tonight, they’ll be chasing a long-awaited prize.

The Clippers face Stony Brook for the Class C county championship at 5:3o p.m. aiming for the program’s first county title since 1987.

The game will be played at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue and admission is $6.

The Clippers (7-7-1) enter the game as the No. 1 seed and Stony Brook, which has won five county titles since 2007, is the No. 2 seed. They are the only two Class C teams to qualify for the postseason. Stony Brook is 6-10.

The two teams split their regular season matchups. Stony Brook won 3-1 on Oct. 11 and the Clippers won 1-0 on Sept. 20.

The winner advances to the regional semifinals against the Nassau County champion Tuesday in New Hyde Park.
