Sunday night marks the beginning of Long Island Restaurant Week.

That’s when more than 190 participating restaurants throughout the island offer a three-course “prix fixe” – that’s fixed price, if your French is bad – dinner for $27.95 every night from Sunday to Sunday.

This year, it starts on Sunday, Nov. 3 and ends on Sunday, Nov. 10.

Restaurants in Riverhead and Southold towns that are participating this fall are: aMano Osteria and Wine Bar in Mattituck; Bistro 72 at Hotel Indigo East End in Riverhead; the Cooperage Inn in Baiting Hollow; Jamesport Manor Inn in Jamesport; Jedediah Hawkins Inn in Jamesport; LaPlage Restaurant in Wading River; Legends Restaurant in New Suffolk; Noah’s in Greenport; Stonewalls at the Woods in Riverhead; Touch of Venice in Mattituck; and Tweeds Restaurant and Buffalo Bar in Riverhead.

The prix fixe deal will only be offered until 7 p.m. on Saturday, sponsors say.

Long Island Restaurant Week started in 2006 and is derived from Hamptons Restaurant Week, which started in 2002. Both are sponsored by the Long Island Restaurant and Hospitality Group, which is a division of WordHampton Public Relations in East Hampton.

It’s a bi-annual event designed to garner business and positive publicity for the area’s restaurants, the group says. It was originally was just a fall event, but in 2011, it added a spring session as well.

“Long Island Restaurant Week is a win-win for participants and consumers,” the group says on its website. “Much of the island’s population is provided the opportunity to save money while dining and sample restaurants they might not otherwise try.”

Sponsors say that since this a highly anticipated event, it is best to make a reservation as early as possible as dining rooms will be booked.
