Cops: Man nabbed for buying liquor with stolen check last year

More than a year after he allegedly bought alcohol using a stolen check in Southold Town, a Manor Park man was arrested Wednesday night in Hampton Bays on the active warrant, Southold police said.

David Sandberg, 33, was caught in Hampton Bays and taken to police headquarters after authorities found he had several active warrants, according to a police statement.

Mr. Sandberg allegedly bought liquor using a stolen check the morning of Feb. 3, 2012, police said. He was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, both misdemeanors, and held for arraignment Thursday.

In addition to the Southold warrant, Mr. Sandberg also had arrest warrants out of two other Suffolk County courts, police said. Information about those active warrants wasn’t immediately available.
