Kathleen Harris Fine

Former Southold resident Kathleen Harris Fine of Bethesda, Md., and Bethany Beach, Del., died Nov. 12, 2013, after a short illness with her family by her side. She was 60.

Kathy was born in Greenport Oct. 20, 1953, to John and Janet Harris of Southold. She graduated from Southold High School in 1971 and the University of Bridgeport, where she majored in English, in 1975.

After college, Kathy relocated to Maryland and began her teaching career at Robert Frost Middle School in Rockville. She had recently retired after 35 years at that school, where she was a highly respected and beloved sixth-grade language arts teacher and team leader. Kathy was instrumental in her school gaining recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. She also served for many years as the outdoor education coordinator for the entire sixth grade.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Robert; her children, Gregory and Allyson; her grandchildren, Brady and Austin; her sister, Patricia Berrill and husband, David; and her niece, Shannon, and nephew, Kevin, and their families.

The family received relatives, friends, teachers and students at Pumphrey Funeral Home in Rockville. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Raphael’s R.C. Church. Kathy was laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Md.
