A live performance of The Nutcracker ballet raised more than $6,500 for medical costs at Eastern Long Island Hospital last week, organizers said.

The event was performed by the Bethpage-based Eglevsky Ballet at Peconic Landing in Greenport; both groups sponsored the event.

“The Eglevsky Ballet students put on a spectacular show,” said ELIH president and CEO Paul J. Connor III.  “We are very grateful to the performers who volunteered their time, Peconic Landing for underwriting the event, and to the staff and residents who helped make the event a success.”

Theatergoers bought more than 160 tickets for the sold out performance.

“Peconic Landing captured the true meaning of the season,” adds Connor.   “It’s all about neighbors caring for neighbors.”
