Amended Vineyard 48 site plan on Planning Board agenda

vineyard48The Southold Town planning board will discuss Vineyard 48’s amended site plan during its work session this afternoon.

The revised plan, which was introduced by an attorney for the controversial Cutchogue winery in March, features a new layout for the existing parking area along with the creation of an overflow lot with 100 additional spaces.

The proposal also includes the construction of a 40-by-100 foot outdoor pavilion adjoining the tasting room that would provide extra seating and picnic tables.

In April, the State Liquor Authority began investigating Vineyard 48 after a long list of residents complained of loud music and of patrons wandering onto neighboring properties and having sex in public.

Two public hearings held this summer regarding the site plan were well-attended by Cutchogue residents, many of whom told the planning board the loud music and bawdy behavior of the winery’s patrons is destroying their quality of life.

However Vineyard 48 owner Matthew Metz called the town a “bully,” saying his business was being unfairly targeted by the town.

The Southold Town Planning Board will meet from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. this afternoon at the Southold Town Annex Board Room on the second floor of the Capital One Bank Building on Main Road in Southold.
