To the editor:

In the Nov. 28 edition of The Suffolk Times, Mattituck school board president Jerry Diffley says he doesn’t believe sharing a superintendent with a neighboring district is feasible since Southold and Greenport have already partnered and the Riverhead School District already has more than 5,000 students. (Mattituck has about 1,400 students.)

What about the Patchogue School District, which has 8,000 students? Or the Smithtown School District, which has 10,000 students with only one superintendent?

The five school districts on the North Fork have a total of 3,000 students with five superintendents. It is each school building principal who is responsible for the students in their building. How much money would be saved with only one superintendent?
