Betty Morgan Baker

Betty Morgan Baker, of New York City and Peconic Landing in Greenport, died Dec. 24, 2013, after a brief illness. She was 86.

A graduate of Holton-Arms School, Wellesley College and Columbia Teachers College, she was a longtime teacher of English as a Second Language.

Family members said Ms. Baker leaves behind many friends and former students as well as members of Greenport Shakespeare Club. They also mentioned that she was a great fan of opera, theater and ballet and cared deeply about social causes and animal welfare.

Ms. Baker was predeceased by her husband, Charles, and is survived by his daughters, Mary E. Baker of New London, Conn., and Susannah C. Baker of Shrewsbury, Mass., and their families.

A celebration of her life will take place Monday, Jan. 13, at 1 p.m. at a memorial service at Orient Congregational Church. A reception will follow at Peconic Landing.

Arrangements are being handled by Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. Private interment will be at Sterling Cemetery, also in Greenport.
