Boating safety courses offered through libraries

Peconic Bay Power Squadron will hold a New York State safe boating course for ages 10 to 19 Saturdays, Jan. 11 through Feb. 8 at noon at Mattituck-Laurel Library in Mattituck.

Registration will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. Saturday, Jan. 11, the first day of class. The fee is $10, payable to Peconic Bay Power Squadron.

Southold Free Library will host a two-day New York State Boating Safety course Monday, Jan. 13, from 5 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 14, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. The course, led by John Scourakis, is suitable for ages 10 and over and will cover such topics as boat handling, navigation, marine radio and other legal and safety requirements. A fee of $35 is due at registration. Students will be eligible to receive a boating safety certificate at the end of the course.
