Katherine Wallace Silleck of Manhattan and New Suffolk died of pancreatic cancer Jan. 5, 2014, at her Upper East Side home. She was 72.

She was born in White Plains and grew up in Hartsdale, Bronxville and Scarsdale, attending local public schools. She graduated from St. Mary’s School in Garden City, attended Centenary College for two years and graduated from Cedar Crest College in 1964. After brief employment with First National City Bank and Chemical Bank, Ms. Silleck began her teaching career. She started at All Souls Day School in New York City and continued her career at Heavenly Rest Day School in New York (later known as Trevor Day School).

Family members said she was a beloved teacher who taught hundreds of kindergarten and pre-K students, retiring after a career of more than 30 years. They also mentioned that, after retiring, she demonstrated her love for fashion, always picking out clothing and accessories for her friends.

Ms. Silleck is survived by her brothers, Bayley, Gordon and Tom, as well as many other family members, who will “greatly miss her.”

A memorial service and reception will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. at Episcopal Church of St. James the Less in Scarsdale. Interment will be at the church cemetery.
