It was Porter Purple Day in Greenport.

But it was the red of Southold that prevailed in the end.

The Southold boys basketball team defeated the host Porters, 57-55, Saturday afternoon in a League VIII matchup. The First Settlers evened their league record at 5-5 while dropping the Porters to 4-5. It was the second meeting between the schools after Greenport won an early December matchup, 82-70.

Fans were encouraged to wear purple to the game to show their support for the home team. Athletic Director Jim Caliendo designated it as Porter Purple Day.

Liam Walker delivered the game-winning basket with a layup in the final second. He finished with 15 points in the game and was tied for the team-high with Alex Poliwoda.

Galvin Dibble led all scorers for Greenport with 19.

Shayne Johnson scored 13 and Kenji Fujita added 10 for Southold. Timmy Stevens scored 11 for Greenport.

Greenport held an eight-point halftime lead, but the First Settlers bounced back with a big third quarter to tie the game heading into the fourth quarter.
