A 20-year-old Greenport man has been arrested for allegedly  having sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl in the village, Southold Town Police said in a press release issued Sunday afternoon.

Erick Ramirez, a former soccer standout at Greenport High School, was arrested Saturday and held overnight for a Sunday morning arraignment on charges of first-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child. Bail was set at $250,000 by Southold Town Justice Bill Price.

Mr. Ramirez has since been transferred to the Suffolk County Jail. The Guatemalan native is also facing detention from the Department of Homeland Security over his immigration status.

Mr. Ramirez was a standout soccer player for the Porters in 2011 and 2012, earning all-league honors.
