Albert J. Romeril Jr.

Former Cutchogue resident Albert J. (Jack) Romeril Jr. died Jan. 1 at his home in Peconic Landing, Greenport. He was 87. 

He was born March 18, 1926, in Mineola to Albert and Winifred Romeril. He served in the U.S. military from 1945 to 1959 and had been employed as an engineer in Monsanto, Calif.

Mr. Romeril was involved in many local clubs and organizations, having served as chairman of the board of Eastern Long Island Hospital, a board member at Peconic Landing and an elder at Cutchogue Presbyterian Church. He also belonged to the North Fork Country Club and Shelter Island Yacht Club and sang with the North Fork Chorale.

Family members said he was an avid sailor, bridge player and woodworker.

Predeceased by his daughter Jean and son, Albert III, Mr. Romeril is survived by his wife, Violet (née Herbst); his daughters Miriam Leonard of North Carolina and Alice Moke of California; his brother, Robert; and four grandchildren.

The family received visitors Jan. 4 at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue, where a funeral service took place Jan. 5. Interment was at Cutchogue Cemetery.
