Caryl Richards Kiendl

Caryl Richards Kiendl, formerly of Mattituck, died Jan. 10, 2014, at Peconic Landing in Greenport. She had just turned 90 years of age.

Caryl Richards Kiendl

Caryl was born Jan. 5, 1924, in Forest Hills. She was the daughter of Rosina (Smith) and Judge Edward A. Richards. She attended the Cathedral School of St. Mary in Garden City, followed by the University of Colorado at Boulder. After school, Caryl worked for American Airlines.

She married Frederick William Kiendl (Rick) on May 23, 1953. They had known each other since childhood, growing up as next-door neighbors in Forest Hills.

Caryl was a lifelong Long Island resident, summering in Mattituck and wintering in Forest Hills. Until she moved to Peconic Landing, Caryl resided in her family home, built by her father, in Salt Lake Village, in Mattituck. Her love for the North Fork and its shores was deep. She grew up on Peconic Bay, sailed on its waters and loved to paint its shores and creeks. She was an avid golfer and a member of the North Fork Country Club for over 50 years. Her greatest love in life was to be surrounded by her devoted family and friends, all of whom meant the world to her.

Caryl is survived by her two children and their families: her daughter, Kim R. Kiendl (married to John Mason) of Doylestown, Pa., and her son, F. William (Bill) Kiendl (married to Felicia Far) of Charlotte, Vt. She also leaves three grandchildren, Ian Mason, Will Kiendl and Julia Kiendl.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. Memorial services will be private.

Contributions in Caryl’s name may be made to her favorite library, Mattituck-Laurel Library, P.O. Box 1437, Mattituck, NY 11952.
