Cops: 2 intoxicated drivers busted on Monday

Southold Town police carSouthold Police said a Manorville man was driving drunk when he ran into a telephone pole on Route 25 Monday night.

According to police, 48-year-old John Weiss was driving eastbound in Southold about 7 p.m. when he ran off the roadway and hit the pole. Police said he admitted to drinking alcohol before the accident.

Mr. Weiss was transported to headquarters and held overnight. He is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.

In a separate incident, police arrested Shirley resident Bonnie Dean for reportedly driving under the influence of drugs.

Police said Ms. Dean was stopped for speeding on County Road 48 near Love Lane about 11 a.m.

According to cops, an investigation revealed that she was impaired by drugs, and she was later found to be in possession of marijuana. She was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs — a misdemeanor — as well as given citations for unlawful possession of marijuana and speeding.

She was also transported to headquarters and is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.
