Greenport Village partnered with the Town of Oyster Bay for “Pond Hockey Friendship Games” at Mitchell Park Saturday night.

Three age groups faced off against each other in part one of the games. Part two will be held in Oyster Bay on Feb. 15.

“Building on the popularity of ice hockey games being played outside, the two-day event will allow hockey players ages 8-13 to take to the ice for a series of friendly youth hockey contests,” Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto said in a press release.

Greenport’s Mayor David Nyce agreed.

“This unique event will give its young participants the feel for playing travel hockey in a friendly and enjoyable manner while still staying on Long Island,” he said. “ We are hoping that this exciting concept will ultimately become an annual event and residents from both the Village of Greenport and the Town of Oyster Bay come out to support the youngsters.”
