Former Greenport resident Richard William Jensen died Jan. 3 in Port Charlotte, Fla., after a brief illness. He was 80.
He was born Sept. 18, 1933, in New York City to William and Gretta Jensen. A retired bayman, he also worked many years at the New Suffolk Shipyard during the 1970s.
Mr. Jensen spent the final weeks of his life catching blue claw crabs and enjoying himself on the water in the company of his close friends David and Deni Hansen.
He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia, and son Eric and is survived by four sons: Richard, of East Marion; Ted, of Licking, Mo.; and Warren and Todd, both of Greenport.
