Update: Relay for Life kickoff event now Feb. 12

Update: The Relay for Life kickoff event has been rescheduled for Feb. 12 after a snowstorm forced it to be postponed.

Original Story: Plans for Southold Town’s 2014 Relay for Life, which supports the American Cancer Society, will get underway Monday with a kickoff event at Southold Elementary School. The event, which will include registration, fundraising ideas and informational materials, starts at 7 p.m.

The annual “town-wide block party,” set for Saturday, May 31, is on the move: It will take place this year at Mitchell Park in Greenport. And the time has changed as well; events will run from noon to midnight, starting with a meal for cancer survivors, who will then walk a “survivor lap.” Then participating individuals and teams will walk the track, dance and socialize, all while raising funds to fight cancer.

Informational meetings will be held Wednesday, March 5; Tuesday, April 8; and Wednesday, May 14; all begin at 7 p.m. in the Southold elementary cafeteria.
