Update: Two potential candidates emerge for village administrator position
Update (Saturday): Greenport Village board members are considering at least two people for the vacant village administrator position, according to two resumés obtained by the Suffolk Times.
On Friday, the board met at Village Hall for a closed-door executive session to discuss “interviews” regarding “personnel,” Mayor David Nyce said.
On Saturday morning, The Suffolk Times received copies of two resumés for potential candidates.
Paul Pallas of Manorville has more than 30 years of electric and gas utility experience. He most recently he served as the superintendent of the Village of Rockville Centre.
David E. Smollett of Lynbrook was most recently village administrator and treasurer in Lawrence. He has served as village administrator in Farmingdale and deputy village administrator in Lynbrook.
While the board took no action yesterday, Mayor Nyce previously said he wants to fill the position prior to current village administrator David Abatelli’s departure later this year.

Update (Friday): Greenport Village Board members gathered at 5 p.m. Friday in Village Hall for a closed-door executive session.
Mayor David Nyce said no official action would be taken by the board, saying only that it was conducting “interviews” regarding “personnel.”
When asked to field a few questions regarding the village power plant upgrade delays, Mr. Nyce shook his head and returned inside.
The mayor has declined to return reporter phone calls seeking clarifications on the upgrades since Jan. 27.
A notice was posted to the village website Thursday telling residents to expect volatility with their bills moving forward.

Original Post: Greenport Village board members have scheduled a special meeting Friday to discuss an “employee related matter,” according to a public notice published on its website Tuesday.
In addition to the personnel issues, the agenda said that members would address any other topic that “may properly come before the board.”
The special meeting is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 7 at 5 p.m. in conference room at Village Hall, located at 236 Third Street, Greenport.
More details were not immediately available.
