It’s not every day you meet someone who dedicates more than four decades to their career. But folks who walk into San Simeon By The Sound in Greenport get to meet someone who’s done just that.
Maria Frumenti began working at San Simeon 45 years ago, starting out in the kitchen, and over time, moving her way up to the nursing and rehabilitation center’s administration department, where she currently works as an office receptionist. She’s often the first person you see at the home.
She moved with her husband and three daughters to East Marion from New York City, finding her “home away from home” shortly after.
“Working at San Simeon has helped form my perspective on life,” she said. “It has taught me to appreciate life. Smiling and being kind to each other, [because] we don’t know what a person is dealing with, can make someone feel better.”
Ms. Frumenti, San Simeon’s employee of the month this month, said the best part of her job is interacting with the residents and staff, adding that “I don’t think people really know how deeply I care about them.”
