A Sag Harbor woman hopes to open a unisex hair salon on Front Street in Greenport by the beginning of March.
Mariana Solano, who owns Mariana Hair Style in East Hampton, went before the Greenport Village Planning Board at its regular session Thursday to submit a drawing of the sign she hopes to install outside the prospective salon, which is located across the street from the Greenport Post Office at 120-22 Front Street.
At a Planning Board work session last week, members said Ms. Solano’s request to operate the building as a hair salon was a permitted use. Greenport Tea Company formerly occupied the space.
On Thursday, Ms. Solano said the hair salon, which she plans to call Nice Haircuts, will employ two hairstylists to start and will offer haircuts to men, women and children.
Ms. Solano said she plans to sell her hair salon in East Hampton and is happy to be moving to Greenport because “it’s less expensive” to rent on the North Fork, she said.
“I like this town,” she said.
