Girls Basketball: County championship doubleheader this afternoon

In a doubleheader this afternoon at Northport High School, the Mattituck and Southold/Greenport girls basketball teams will both be vying for county championships.

The Mattituck girls face top-seeded Hampton Bays at 4 p.m. for the Class B crown. The Tuckers prevailed over Center Moriches Friday to advance into the finals. Hampton Bays cruised past McGann-Mercy in the other semifinal.

Hampton Bays won twice against Mattituck in the regular season, 69-55 and 67-56. The winner of today’s game advances to play the Class C winner in a non-elimination game.

Southold, the No. 2 seed in Class C, faces No. 1 Pierson/Bridgehampton at 2 p.m. The Clippers (5-12) went 1-1 against Pierson in the regular season. The Clippers won 47-43 in December, but lost 54-38 on Jan. 27.

There’s a separate $6 admission for each game.
