Carolyn M. Dewar

Carolyn M. Dewar of Southold died at her home Jan. 29, 2014, with her family by her side. She was 72.

She was born July 2, 1941, in Flint, Mich., to Michael and May (Hansman) Zukas. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Southold.

On April 1, 1982, Carol married John P. Dewar in Southold. She had been a bookkeeper at San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation and, after retiring from that position, became a cashier at King Kullen in Cutchogue.

Carol enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching, reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, collecting Precious Moments figurines, eating out and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, John P. Dewar; her children, Michael (Lynn) Eckhardt and Michelle Eckhardt, both of Southold, and Melissa (Tim) McGowan of Mattituck; a brother, Gary Zukas of Southold; six grandchildren, Shannon Chute, Jeremy Eckhardt, Kaela and Collin McGowan and Nicholas and Justin Eckhardt; and a great-granddaughter, Ariana Chute.

The family received visitors Jan. 30 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 31 by Father Peter Garry at St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery.
