A little snow and rain won’t put a damper on the Greenport Fire Department’s annual Washington’s Birthday  Saturday, fire department officials said.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. starting at the west end of town by Greenport High School. Fire police will direct volunteer firefighters from departments across the North Fork to their line up locations.

National Weather Service forecasts show the North Fork will be hit with another 1 to 4 inches of snowfall beginning Saturday morning, with the heaviest of the snow hitting at the beginning of the parade.

“If the banding is right over the area, they could get some significant snowfall,” said meteorologist Mike Silva. “Some newer models are suggesting we might need to revise those [snowfall total] models upwards.”

Last year, the parade was held during a light snow flurry. Check back to The Suffolk Times website for photos from the parade on Saturday.
