Cops: Bellport man was speeding with 100+ license suspensions

A 44-year-old man with more than 100 active drivers license suspensions was caught speeding with switched license plates in Cutchogue Friday, Southold Town police said.

Jerry Tenzie of Bellport was pulled over on Route 48 about 9:15 a.m. by the Southold police highway patrol, police said. A computer search of Mr. Tenzie’s record showed that he had 105 suspensions for various offenses “including failure to appear in court and failure to pay fines,” according to a police statement.

Another computer search found that Mr. Tenzie’s vehicle was unregistered, uninsured, hadn’t been inspected and had switched license plates, police said.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed driving and traffic violations. He was arraigned in Southold Town court and held in Suffolk County jail on $2,500 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
